Never at my smartest in the middle of the night

Even though I am philosophically opposed to allergies, I have been suffering terribly from them for about a month now, particularly the past week.

My doctor kept prescribing things that have pseudoephedrine in them, and it wasn’t until yesterday, when I had been awake for about 48 hours straight (THAT will give you the crazies!) that I realized the one common element shared by all these allergy medicines.

I’ll be asking for a little note to be put in my file. No more of that stuff!

On Tuesday night (Wednesday morning?), hopped up on a thrilling mixture of pseudoephedrine and Ambien, I thought to myself,

“Of course Jinx Kittyman’s middle name is Tiberius, so he has the same initials as Captain Kirk.”

Aw MAN! I don’t even like Star Trek that much!

But of course it has stuck.

Take some Vitamin C. And then take some more. And have some curry with extra onions and turmeric in it. All of these things help supress inflammatory reactions (which is what allergies really are). I also have been suffering, thank you mulberry trees, and it is helping a bit.

Allergies! GAH! I hear you on that one. Glad you found out which med was counterproductive and hope you find something that makes you feel better. I second the recommendation for vit. C, also local honey sometimes helps.

Hey, sweet – I try not to bug you with comments, but one has to share sometimes. Living in what turns out to be one of the top three worst allergy regions in the country, this year I finally tried something I’d heard about for years but never got around to. A daily(-ish) spoonful of LOCAL honey (can be spring honey or late summer honey; it doesn’t matter but for your taste) has made the most astonishing difference. Apparently there’s something wonderful about homegrown bees – and there isn’t much terrible about honey in any variety. 🙂

Also: yum. So much better than pseudoephedrine – which isn’t especially effective, and IS a yicky chemical.
